Here are 10 VERY good reasons to buy art…

I’ve been thinking about how the majority of people who purchase paintings from me are domestic collectors. In other words they are purchasing art to live with in their home rather than purely as an investment.

So I thought I would try and come up with 10 good reasons to buy art as a domestic art collector!

Read on to see if you agree!

  1. To make a space feel like it’s truly yours. Art personalises a home in ways furniture never can. It holds memory, mood and meaning all in one frame.

Colourful art by London artist Niamh Birch of a striped swimsuit on a hanger, with bright patterns. Nearby, a red lamp and wooden boards sit on a white table. Cozy mood.

  2. Express who you are without saying a word. Art is language. Choose pieces that speak of your identity, even if it’s in whispers.

Cozy room with a yellow sofa, colourful abstract painting by Abi Wason and a relaxed dog on the floor. Light blue walls, beige rug, and a wooden table.

  3. As a thoughtful investment.Yes, art can gain value. But more often it becomes priceless to you for reasons that can’t be measured.

Painting of an empty swimming pool Portishead Lido by Bristol artist Annie Clay with blue water, orange wall, and railings. Text on the wall next to the artwork. Warm tones and tranquil mood.

  4. Because it made you feel something. If a piece stops you in your tracks, shifts your breath, and lingers in your mind. Go for it!

  5. To support artists you believe in.Collectors often invest in stories. Help the artists you admire thrive.

Abstract painting a nude by Olivia Tew on worn wall, blue hues, beside a window and radiator. Another framed artwork hangs nearby. Bright, rustic room.

  6. For the intellectual thrill. Art challenges. It raises questions, invites debate and opens windows into different ways of seeing.

Abstract painting by Bristol artist Jenni Stuart with blues, greens, and polka dots on a beige wall. Black sofa below with patterned cushions, pink flower nearby. Calm mood.

  7. To leave something meaningful behind. Whether it’s for children, a foundation or the future. Art makes a great legacy.

Colourful portrait by Emma Digerud White painting on a wall above a white fireplace with green tiles. Books and decor fill a shelf nearby.

  8. To shape how your space feels. Light. Texture. Tone. The right piece can anchor a room or shift its entire energy.

Abstract painting by Kent artist Hollie Savory with pink, green, and blue hues hangs on a white paneled wall. Nearby is a wooden tripod floor lamp.

  9. For connection. Collecting work opens doors — to artists, gallerists and fellow collectors who share a curiosity for beauty and meaning.

  10. Because it’s beautiful — and that’s enough. Sometimes art doesn’t need to justify itself. It just needs to move you (and look amazing above your bath!)

Painting by Sandra Berti of abstract table on a green background above a rustic wood backsplash with taps and stacked books. Cozy, artistic vibe.
