Paintings deeply inspired by the ever-changing layers of land, sea and sky

Camilla Jane Gittins
Camilla is an established abstract landscape painter known for her sensitive and layered interpretations of the natural world. Raised on a farm in mid-Wales, Camilla has fostered a lifelong connection to the rugged landscape.

Camilla's formal training includes a BA (hons) in Embroidery from Manchester College of Art & Design and this foundation in textiles later influenced her distinctive style. After graduating, Camilla spent over nine years as a Creative Concept Designer for global fashion brands like Jack Wills and Tommy Hilfiger in London and Amsterdam. This period refined her eye for colour, composition and design.

Camilla’s paintings are deeply inspired by the ever-changing layers of land, sea and sky. She is fascinated by the depth of colours and patterns found in nature. Her work is characterised by a signature technique of mark making and combining dense and transparent layers to create a compelling sense of depth and atmosphere.
She strategically employs a colourful yet calming palette, often leaving balanced, untouched areas of the cotton canvas to draw the viewer's eye. A unique element of her finish is the application of delicate scribbles, made using a heavy-weight graphite pencil or even a sewing needle, a nod to her foundational training in textiles. This technique creates a distinctive texture and dynamic energy across the surface.
