The Ultimate Guide to Buying Photography: Prints That Break the Rules, Not the Bank

Photographs are everywhere in our digital age, and it's easy to see them as just everyday images rather than works of art. But photographic prints can be a stylish and affordable way to start or add to an art collection. There can be a reality and depth to a great photograph that can be hard to find in other ways.
The reason for collecting photographs should be the same as the reason for collecting any other kind of art. You can build a stunning collection based on what you love, what inspires you and what makes you feel connected to the world.
Where to Begin
When it comes to buying photography for your home, don't be afraid to be playful and mix the traditional with the modern. To me, adding photography to a collection is about mixing things up. I love to display paintings, drawings, and prints all together in one cohesive collection. Integrating photography into your home is a fantastic way to add visual interest and contrast, giving any room a unique, eclectic feel.
This is especially effective in unexpected places or traditional settings, where a modern photograph can completely transform the space. A collage of different photos, prints, and paintings is honestly such a great way to make a room feel vibrant and full of personality.
When buying photography, you can also make a bold statement by hanging a single, large-scale photograph as a focal point over a sofa or dining table. Either highlight a colour within your scheme for example a blue sky that compliments your blue cushions or contrast the colour scheme with an unexpected pop of colour
Sometimes a contemporary photograph can be a fantastic way to make a classic, traditional space feel clean and fresh, bringing something entirely new and unique, giving a room the punch it might have been missing. The power of photography is that just one statement piece can be all you need to transform a space.
Alternatively, a small, striking photograph can stand out beautifully on a large, empty wall, resting on a shelf or work really well as part of a gallery wall.
In the bathroom, I love hanging something unexpected. A fun, tongue in cheek piece can entertain your guests (and yourself) while using the space. Alternatively, for a more relaxing vibe, choose a tranquil landscape to enjoy while soaking in the tub.
Art Glass
Wherever you hang your photographic prints, make sure they aren't in direct sunlight, as this can cause them to fade over time. Anti-reflective glass is a game-changer with photography and ensures that it won't fade too. While more expensive, it also ensures better clarity and makes the photograph stand out.
Framing Tips
While our prints are designed to fit in a standard, off-the-shelf frame, I highly recommend investing in a beautiful frame to truly bring the work to life.
Adding an oversized mount is a fantastic way to increase the impact and scale of a smaller photograph, giving you more bang for your buck. This approach works especially well when hanging art on busy or patterned wallpaper, as it gives the piece some breathing room.
On the other hand, I also love the look of large-scale prints framed closely in a simple, slim frame for a more contemporary feel, it really depends on your preference and the space you have.
I hope this has given you the confidence to see how fine art photography could work in your home and encouraged you to start buying photography! Check out our ever expanding collection of limited edition photos chosen to elevate your interior space. Available to purchase here.
