These trees were first ‘collected’ in a sketchbook while walking through Mount Edgcumbe in Cornwall, a short walk and ferry ride from where Erica lives in Plymouth.
The observational drawings later became the reference for this imagined landscape. The composition is inspired by the simplicity of children’s drawings, where a sun in the sky acts as a constant, anchoring presence and familiar figures are often arranged side by side, shaping the way the trees are positioned in a procession, each with its own character and personality.
