As a gardener, Erica loves late summer. It’s when her favourite plants, like Rudbeckia, Crocosmia and Verbena Bonariensis, are at their best. The colours feel deeper and richer, and the garden feels abundant and heavy with growth, just before it starts to fade into the colder months. She wanted to make a painting that celebrates this point in the year. She's filled the canvas with larger-than-life plants to reflect the experience of working close to the ground, with your hands in the soil and plants close to your face. The garden becomes its own small, heady world, a place where time softens and it’s easy to become present.
