The Science is Clear: Viewing Art Has Measurable Health Benefits (New Study)

If you follow me on Instagram, you will know that I am a big fan of a visit to an art museum. I have been a staunch advocate of visiting art galleries and exhibitions to calm your mind, energise your creativity and boost your wellbeing for many years now. In fact, earlier this year I worked with Art Fund, the UK's national charity for the sector to promote their National Art Pass for this very reason.

Viewing Art is good for you!

Imagine my excitement to hear of a groundbreaking new study that provided the most compelling scientific evidence yet that visiting a gallery isn't just a pleasant outing, it's an instant boost for your health and wellbeing.

Launched by Art Fund's National Art Pass and conducted by King’s College London, this first-of-its-kind research measured people's physiological responses while they viewed masterpieces by legends like Manet, Van Gogh, and Gauguin.

The results are astonishing.

The research found that viewing art activates the immune, endocrine (hormone), and autonomic nervous systems all at once. This comprehensive, simultaneous activation has never been recorded before. Think of it: just by standing and appreciating a painting, your body is getting a full-system tune-up!

These findings are a huge win for museums and galleries. Art Fund is hoping this scientific proof will encourage everyone to experience these proven health benefits firsthand. Read more about the study here.

Well there you go, viewing art has measurable health benefits after all!
