Mila May is a British contemporary artist living and working in Falmouth, Cornwall. Her paintings are informed by life by the sea, Mediterranean travels and nostalgic memories of childhood summers spent idling outdoors.

Working predominantly in acrylic and mixed media on panel, paper and wood, her practice sits somewhere between painting and printmaking. With a background in traditional screen printing and a degree in Printed Textile Design from Falmouth University, thin layers of acrylic are brushed, buffed and reworked into the surface over time, building artworks rich in colour, depth and texture.

Her paintings are shaped by nostalgic daydreams and everyday observations. Beach balls, sailboats, flowers, antique pots, still lifes, tomatoes and Mediterranean delicacies find their way into her paintings. Through warm earthy colour, simplified forms and playful compositions, her work reflects a lasting fascination with nostalgia, play and the small pleasures we wonderfully witness in the everyday. Paintings of seaside nostalgia, made with daydreaming in mind.

Exploring and experimenting is an important part of Mila’s practice, never quite knowing how a piece will turn out or where in the world it might travel. Each collection is made with the intention of bringing warmth, familiarity and joy into the lives and homes the works find their way to.

Her work has been exhibited throughout Cornwall and is held in private collections throughout the UK and internationally.
