Nellie Shepherd is an actor, author, artist, educator and founder of Bullclough Art School, where artists from all over the world come to explore contemporary art practice. With a background in fine art, theatre and large scale creative projects, her work blends storytelling, collaboration and a deep sensitivity to place.
As a painter, Nellie is a colourist, her work is characterised by spontaneity, emotion and bold expressive mark-making. She frequently uses mixed media to build up the surface of her canvases, creating a sculptural depth that makes the subjects feel present and alive.
Shepherd’s work seeks to capture the essence of a subject, the fleeting mood of a flower or the history of a found object rather than its literal form. Her paintings are built through energetic mark-making and rich, tactile layers, resulting in expressionist compositions that pulse with life.
