Suze has always been drawn to the sea, and the faded beauty of British seaside towns. Fascinated by the visual narrative of signage and the nostalgia of summer holidays from a byegone era, Suze explores these themes through her papercut collages.

This new series of papercut collages has been created for DIVE, reworking archive photography Suze took back in the early 2000s at Weston Super Mare and Portishead Lido, layering with her signature papercut details to playfully celebrate the millennial signage & typography.

Exhibited as part of DIVE, a vibrant summer exhibition showcasing 14 exceptional women artists at 17 Midland Road, Bristol.

DIVE offers a sensory exploration of water's liberating essence, interpreting themes from wild swimming and lidos to the female form, community and connection with nature. Through painting, photography, sculpture and mixed media, this exhibition boldly represents the diverse female experience of swimming.

Suze Riley’s papercut collages explore themes of faded nostalgia. She has always been drawn to old signage, dated buildings and interiors, and the people, history and stories connected to those spaces.

Minimal yet detailed, her art reflects fragile beauty and disappearing memories from the British seaside, American road trips, cafes, holiday resorts and amusement parks.

Suze has a BA in Illustration from UWE, Bristol, and an MA in Graphic Design from LCC. She worked in marketing at Penguin Random House before moving to the US in 2016, when she returned to her professional art practice.

Suze also creates large cardboard art installations and works as a live portrait artist at events, with recent clients including Notion, The Ferry Building and Altitude Summit.
